About Me

Colby Brown is a professional photographer specializing in nature, travel and humanitarian photography. Throughout his work one can see that he combines his love of the natural world with his fascination of the world’s diverse cultures. Each of his photographs tells a story of life on this planet.

Born in California, he developed a love for both the ocean and the mountains at a young age. Whether he was exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains around Lake Tahoe or sailing around San Francisco Bay, Colby’s thirst for adventure and the outdoors began to grow exponentially.

Colby has dedicated the last few years of his life combining his passion for photography with his love of travel and adventure.  From diving the Great Barrier Reef to climbing peaks in the Himalayas. Surfing the breaks off the North Shore in Hawaii to ice climbing the glaciers of New Zealand. Through these experiences, he has learned the importance of compassion within this dynamic and complicated world we all live in. Lending a helping hand or even a smile can go a very long way. In 2009 Colby founded "The Giving Lens", a non-profit organization that sets out to prove that photography and journalism can change the world. If you get a chance, please check out the "Get Involved" section of this website.

While specializing in adventure travel photography, Colby Brown, also does freelance photojournalism, event and production photography and donates his time to many Non Profit organizations while out in the field. He is a citizen of both the US and Canada, a certified PADI Master Diver and Wilderness First Responder.  You may see Colby’s articles in the San Antonio Express News, The Sierra Club Newsletters or Real Travel.com. He has worked as a photography instructor for National Geographic Student Expeditions and is currently working on a project involving the National Park System here in the US.  You can view some of his work in the book, “Around the World with TPN”, which was produced by the Traveler Photographers Network.
