It is that time of year again and my 2012 Colby Brown Photography Wall Calendar is printed and on its way to my office. This year I have something special in store for everyone. Think of this collection as a selection of some of my favorite photographs from around the world.

We have photography work from: Guatemala, Thailand, Vietnam, Chile, Haiti, Ecuardor, California, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, Cambodia & Nepal.

On top of that, I am throwing in a free Photo Editing Video Tutorial for the first 200 people to purchase the calendar. This video will cover the step by step process of how I create some of my best images. After you purchase the calendar, you will be emailed a link where you can view the tutorial as many times as you want. My online digital editing workshops range from $40 to $100 so this is a great opportunity to save some money, get a gift for the holiday season and learn a few new digital editing tricks.

The calendar goes on sale to the public on October 24th, 2012 and will cost $20 + Shipping ($3 US / $7 International). If you want to be reminded when the calendar goes on sale, simply enter your email address below.

Photo of the Week: “Volcanic Sunrise”

Photo of the Week: August 4th, 2010

“Volcanic Sunrise – Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala – 2010

“Volcanic Sunrise” was taken on the stunningly beautiful Lago de Atitlan in Guatemala. Just a few hours West of Guatemala City, this Jewel is a must visit for anyone traveling through the country. This photo was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 24-70 2.8L Lens sitting on a tripod early one morning on the lake. I used a hard 3 stop GND Filter to help lighten up the pier in contrast to the rising sun. I hope you enjoy!

Photo of the Week: July 26th, 2010

“Painted Falls” – Semuc Champey, Guatemala – 2010

“Painted Falls” was taken in the incredibly beautiful and somewhat untraveled natural wonder of Semuc Chmpey in Guatemala. Four-teen miles from Lanquin, in the Verapaces region, the Semuc Champey natural pools are a must see if you ever visit Guatemala. This photo was taken handheld with a Canon 5D Mark II and a can 70-200 2.8L Lens. I attached my B+W 9 Stop Neutral Density filter, which allowed me to use an incredibly slow shutter speed even though it was taken in mid morning. I slightly moved my hands in a circular motion durring the exposure, effectively creating the dream like/water feeling of the entire image. I hope you enjoy!

What is it like to take local buses in a 3rd world country? How do I determine what to document on a trip to another country? What it is like to live life in my shoes?

I recently wrote an article for F-stop Gear, the leading adventure photography bag maker in the industry right now, about my trip to Guatemala earlier this year. It started yesterday with Day 1 and continues today with Day 2. Be sure to check back in each day with them to read the full story. This piece covers 12 days of travel through the beautiful, wild and amazing country of Guatemala. Enjoy!

Tikal and the Mayan Ruins of Northern Guatemala

Friday, February 19th, 2010

For most people visiting Guatemala, a stop at the incredible Mayan ruins of Tikal is a must, if not the sole reason for their visit. Dwarfed only by El Mirador, which is 77km from Flores in the heart of very thick jungle, Tikal is the largest Mayan temple complex that is easily accessible to the general public. The site is dominated by five enormous temples that rise to more then 60m above the dense forest floor. Literally 1000′s of smaller structors dot the 576 square kilometer National Park know as Parque Nacional Tikal.

Walking through the park at dawn is a very surreal experience. Howler monkeys, Toucans, Tarantulas and Koatymundi are just a few of the many creatures you are likely to run into while on your own adventure through Tikal. The temples themselves are majestic to a point that is beyond words. Imagine seeing 1000 year old ancient temples, altars and carvings popping out of dense Guatemalan jungle while you listen some of the most amazing tropical bird sounds you have ever heard. Only my time at the Buddhist and Hindu Angkor Wat temples of Cambodia rival the sheer magnitude of the experience that it is walking through Tikal National Park.

Be sure to check out some of my personal photos, HERE, to see more of this amazing location.
