Inspirational Words From John Muir

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Last weekend I had the privilege to not only teach a Photography Seminar and Workshop for the Color the Skies Event in Modesto, California, but also to spend a few days sleeping under the stars in Tuolumne Meadows up in Yosemite National Park. John Muir has always been one of my hero’s when it came to the conservation of nature and like usual, I recently found his words hitting home. These days I find myself all over the globe. By the end of this year I will have worked in Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Chile, Argentina and all over the US. In between those trips I usually find myself in front of a computer either editing photography work or working in my new position with one of my sponsors, F-Stop Gear, as the Community and Events Director. The point is that everyone, myself included, needs to take time to get out into nature and enjoy her peace and beauty.

I released this “Ad” for my photography business last year, but felt that it was time to bring it back out and share.

“Keep close to nature’s heart…and break clear away, once in a while,

and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”

~John Muir

Keep Close to Nature’s Heart….

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

John Muir once said, ““Keep close to Nature’s heart…and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” I think it is easy for most of us to lose that sense of connection with the “wildness” that John Muir so passionately talked about. Life is a complicated and dynamic, always changing and moving in a direction, but sometimes you have to force yourself to stop what you are doing and truly embrace all things nature.

I was born in Berkeley, California in 1982 and although I grew up on the California coast, my truest sense of home has always been in the mountains. Whether it was the Sierra Nevada’s, the Cascades or the Rockies…I have always been able to find my peace with the world when hiking through these granite temples.  A lot of people think that my life is hectic, with all the traveling….all the packing…all the jet lag. But what most people don’t realize is that these trips are meditative to me. Today I leave for a 12 day exploration into Yosemite National Park to walk in the shoes of John Muir…to wash my spirit clean…
