Torres del Paine Panorama of Cuernos del Paine - Patagonia

Attempting to capture the beautiful mountains of Torres del Paine National Park is sometimes a daunting task. Between the fierce and unpredictable weather and sheer magnitude of the peaks, sometimes you have to think outside of your own box to truly capture a scene. This image was shot at 5:45AM, before the sun was to close to the horizon to give me the incredibly soft light that I was attempting to capture. With an RSS Pano Head and pano slider attached to my tripod, I took this image by stitching together 5 separate images in Photoshop. Although this photo doesn’t have a dramatic sky, I enjoy the simplicity mixed with the grandeur of the Cuernos del Paine Massif. What are your thoughts?

Techado Negro Panorama – Reflected Patagonia

Techado Negro Panorama from Los Glaciares National Park(click on the above image for a high resolution version)

As I have mentioned before, Lago Torre is one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Patagonia. Surrounded by some of the most amazing peaks in the area (Corro Solo, Cerro Torre, Techado Negro) as well as the Torre Glaciar, Lago Torre offers the opportunity for unbelievable reflection photography. However, just like the rest of Patagonia, you have to have patience and wait for the weather to be just right. For this image, I had to camp out for 3 days and it wasn’t until the morning of the 4th day that the skies cleared. As the age old saying goes, “Patience is key”…

Lago Torre Panorama from Los Glaciares National Park

Panorama of Lago Torre in Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina in Patagonia(click on the image to see a high resolution version)

A visit to Los Glaciares National Park in Southern Argentina is certainly not complete without a hike up to Lago Torre. Located just 11k outside of El Chalalten, this beautiful remote lake offers incredible views of Cerro Torre, Techado Negro and Cordon Adela…that is when the weather allows you to. After spending 3 nights camping near this amazing lake, the clouds finally dissipated and revealed the beautiful scene you see before you. Shooting photography in places like Patagonia requires patience, creativity and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.

Photo of the Day: “Mighty Tetons Panorama”

Mighty Teton's Panorama B&WMighty Teton Panorama” – Grand Teton National Park – Wyoming

There are only a few mountains in the US that are more iconic or dramatic as Wyoming’s Grand Tetons. Rising up out of the valley floor, these massive peaks stretch up toward the sky. One day last fall after a beautiful sunrise, I captured this panorama using a Canon 5D Mark II with Canon’s 70-200 2.8L lens. Setting up on a tripod with a RRS PCL pano head and a panorama slider, I was able to capture these stunning mountains. I added the B&W color conversion using OnONe Software’s Silver Efex Pro.
