The June 27th Sunday Edition of the Denver Post

Yesterday, The Denver Post published an article that showcased the “Lespwa Haiti” project. Written by Kristen Kidd, it did a great job of summarizing the details of the project and it gave us the opportunity to reach millions of Colorado residents. You can click HERE to see a digital copy of the article. Thank you Denver Post.

To celebrate the media coverage of Lespwa Haiti, here are 3 more previously unreleased images

“We Need Help” – Port Au Prince, Haiti – 2010

“We Need Help” was taken on the streets of Port Au Prince, Haiti after the devastating earthquake that level most of the country. It was captured with a Canon 1D Mark IV camera and a 70-200 2.8L IS II Lens while driving through the city. Anytime you are shooting humanitarian photography work, you have to dance the very thin line of effectively documenting the situation and respecting the people and cultures that are involved. This is never an easy task.

Check out the “Lespwa Haiti” Gallery located HERE to see more photography work from Haiti.

Can Photography Change the World?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

What if photography had the ability to change the world? What if the smaller organizations and NGO’s that help to push humanity forward actually had the ability to share their stories?

July 13th is the launch of a completely redesigned website and that is just the beginning.

More information coming soon!

Summer Has Arrived! Time to Get Out and Explore!!

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Today is June 21 and the first official day of summer. Clear skies, beautiful weather  and warm summer nights. I hope you all get a chance to head to the beaches, hike up into the mountains or just enjoy spending the weekends outside. With the onslaught of the BP oil spill, this is a great time of year to celebrate all of the various reasons we love and cherish nature and the outdoors. He is a quick video from The Nature Conservancy that I have shown before but that I feel is fitting.

I leave you with two photos that are meant to inspire you to get outside and start exploring!

Photo of the Week: “Purple Infusion”

Photo of the Week: June 18th, 2010

“Purple Infusion” – Point Reyes National Seashore, California – 2010

“Purple Infusion” was taken just off the shoreline from the Point Reyes North Beach, north of San Fransisco. It was taken without a tripod with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro Lens. When shooting macro photography without using a tripod, you must learn to control your breathing and position your body in a way that doesn’t allow for any natural sway. It takes practice, but with the right equipment and technique you can pull off great macro images without always carrying around your tripod.

We Need Change! Haiti’s Call for Help…

Monday, June 14th, 2010

“We Need Change” was a phrase I heard often on the streets of Port Au Price, Haiti. While shooting photography for “Lespwa Haiti“, a photo documentary project that I am collaborating on with Ray Tollison, it was difficult not to pick up on the sentiments of the Haitian people .

It has been over 6 months since the January 12th earthquake decimated the island nation of Haiti and yet there is still so much to be done. IDP camps litter the capital of Port Au Prince, effectively making over 1,000,000 Haitians vulnerable to what appears to be a very bad hurricane season. However the Haitian people still have hope and optimism in their hearts. Haitians are a hard working people and trust me…there is plenty of work that needs to be done. In the coming weeks, I hope you join Ray and I as we redesign the Lespwa Haiti website and bring to light touching stories, compelling photography and a glimpse into the amazing and resilient people of Haiti.

The Haiti We Have Forgotten About…

Friday, June 11th, 2010

On June 2nd, professional photography Ray Tollison and myself travled to the island nation of Haiti for a photo documentary project called “Lespwa Haiti“. After spending 7 days documenting the life, struggle and hope of the Haitian people, we have returned here to Colorado to put things together. Here is a quick glimpse of the Haitian world we explored and documented. Stay tuned for a plethora of stories, photos and videos that have captured our hearts and have us looking forward to returning in the near future.

“Ocean Dreams” – McClure Beach – Point Reyes National Seashore, California – 2010

“Ocean Dreams” was taken just off the shoreline of McClure’s Beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore, just north of San Francisco. It was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 24-70 2.8L Lens set up on a tripod. I used a B+W 77mm 9 Stop ND Filter to help slow down my shutter speed, which allowed me to capture the water in this dream like state.

“Sailing Paradise” – Roatan, Honduras 2010

“Sailing Paradise” was taken one of the white sandy beaches on the island of Roatan in Honduras. It was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II w/ a Canon 24-70 2.8L lens set up on a tripod. If you are an avid scuba diver and enjoy laying around in paradise between your inexpensive dives, then head to Honduras and bypass the over priced country of Belize.
