About Me

Colby is a photographer, photo educator and author based out of Eastern Pennsylvania. Specializing in landscape, travel and wildlife photography, his body of work spans the four corners of the globe and covers all 7 continents. He has been a Sony Ambassador and Sony Artisan since 2015.

He is also the founder of the humanitarian photo organization The Giving Lens, which blends the art form of photography with the focus and purpose of giving back to those in need around the world.

  • ​There’s nothing quite like summer in Alaska alongside the brown bears of Katmai! With salmon numbers considerably lower this year, the bears were constantly working the tidal flats and rivers —delivering non-stop action and even better opportunities for our workshop crew. ​Here’s is a quick selection of some of my favorites so far.   • I am very excited to introduce the brand new Sony 100-400 f/5.6-8 telephoto lens. This lightweight, sharp and affordable telephoto lens is a great option for wildlife photographers that are just getting into the field. I took this lens with me to Brazil to photograph the amazing wildlife in the Pantanal region and it absolutely did NOT disappoint!   • Every summer I end up spending multiple weeks in Alaska exploring more of the Katmai, Lake Clark and Brooks regions in search of the incredible Alaska Coastal Brown Bear. Next week I head back to Alaska to continue this tradition to lead two incredible groups of photographers. This year I am also helping out my friend @charlesglatzer , after his tragic passing, by helping run his Alaska tours for his family. I can't think of a better way to pay tribute to an old friend than by taking care of his groups in one of his favorite places on the planet. Chas...you will be missed!   • Alaska will always have a special place in my heart. No matter how many times I bring groups of photographers up here to see bears, I can never seem to get enough of this amazing place. I am in the middle of yet another Brown Bear adventure with an amazing group of clients and I am loving every minute of it. I recently had a last minute space open up for my second group (August 4th - 9th), so let me know if you are interested and want to join!

  • Owls are truly magnificent creatures! Every chance I get to photograph and experience one is special. This particular day I was out looking for Great Greys, otherwise known as the "Phantom of the North" up in Canada. Little did I know, a massive storm was rolling in, making for some very unique scenes. Sony a1 II w/ 400mm f/2.8 GM plus 1.4 TC. Shot in 4k, cropped down to 1080p and resized back to 4k for you.
  • Sometimes with nature...one can't help but fall in love at first sight ;) Guanaco (part of the Llama family), taken in Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia.
