Wildlife Nirvana in Costa Rica
This was my first photography specific workshop and first true international excursion. Up until the arrival in San Jose there was plenty of communication and trip info provided yet there was still the unknown of 2 weeks in a foreign country with a group of strangers. Colby and team picked everyone up at the respective hotels and within 15 minutes we had everyone loaded and on the way to the jungle. Maybe it was luck or kismet but our group instantly became friends and we could not have been more excited. Colby and his partner Kenneth Martinez were the consumate hosts with every destination thoroughly planned out and executed to perfection. Although our group was well seasoned on photography we still learned a ton of wildlife tips and tricks beyond what we brought. Colby was incredibly well versed in all things photography but at the same time was incredibly patient and intuitive with his instruction. Especially with our macro flash photography sessions with reptiles and amphibians. It's also worth noting that Colby and team aren't just go here, shoot this with their workshops, they include so much of the local culture, language and customs that you are able to immerse yourself with the people that live and work there. Colby and I enjoyed a little inside joke wherein I would ask if we would see "a Sloth or a Fer de Lance" in between destinations and Colby would just smile and say "It's possible....but not guaranteed... (we saw both)" So would I recommend and embark on another workshop with Colby? Highly likely and guaranteed!
