About Me

Colby is a photographer, photo educator and author based out of Eastern Pennsylvania. Specializing in landscape, travel and wildlife photography, his body of work spans the four corners of the globe and covers all 7 continents. 

He is also the founder of the humanitarian photo organization The Giving Lens, which blends the art form of photography with the focus and purpose of giving back to those in need around the world.

  • One of the things I love about snakes is the fact that the same species can often be found in multiple different color variations (known as morphs). If you remember the world's most beautiful snake, the blue Trimeresuris insularis I shared a few months back...this is the Green morph of the same species. Coincidentally, it can also be found in a yellow color variation. All three can only be found on three remote islands in Komodo National Park in Indonesia.   • The Great Lakes Bush Viper (Atheris nitschei) is a gorgeous snake found in Central & East Africa. They generally are found in wetlands but also call places like the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda home, where I found this beautiful species! While their venom is highly toxic, which can cause hemorrhaging and severe bleeding, they are not a threat to humans. Like most snakes, they should be left alone. No snake deserves to die just because it found itself in a location that you feel it shouldn't be. Snakes are VITAL to the ecosystems they are found in!   • Any guesses on which animal this is?One of the things I love the most about spending so much time in Africa over the past decade is that I have been pushed to find new and creative ways to document and photograph the amazing creatures that call this continent home. If you have ever been on Safari, you know the challenges of the wildlife turning around just when you want to photograph them...so I decided to run with it and get creative.   • There is something incredible about watching Bald Eagles fight over salmon up in Alaska. These powerful creatures have massive talons that are razor sharp, and when you mix that the aerial acrobatics that often accompany these fights, any wildlife photographer would have a field day with trying to take these kinds of images.
