Behind the Lens: Paying Attention to the Details

As a fine art photographer, I have learned over the years the importance of paying attention to the details of every image that I choose to see all the way through my workflow process. In this screen shot, I am editing an image I took durring the sunflower season here in Colorado. I have one window open with the image at no zoom. I then have a second window open with a magnification at 1242.55%. Why? Because details matter. When you have your images printed up to 30 x 40 inches and beyond…EVERYTHING is noticeable. I think many people would be surprised to know just how much time I spend zoomed in on the finer details of some of my best work.

Details Matter in Fine Art Photography
Details Matter

Most people just take a photo because a scene is beautiful and there is nothing wrong with that. But if you want your images to be taken to the next level, alot more has to be put into your work. Exposure, composition, atmosphere, mood and most importantly a little piece of yourself should go into your work. All of those pieces should be used in harmony to highlight your subject and elicit an emotion from your audience. Anything in the image that takes away from that….is a distraction and I try to remove…within reason of course:)

What should I take away from this? DETAILS MATTER!
