Welcome to
Colby Brown Photography
I became a photographer back in 2006, rapidly rising in the ranks of the photo industry. I created my company, Colby Brown Photography, to offer my services to the public and corporations. I spent countless hours studying the latest photography techniques, exploring camera technology and photo editing. This learning curve opened my eyes to the world of photography education by exploring the world and using these techniques in the field.
I was leading photography workshops for National Geographic in South America, further spurring my love for both travel and photo education. Over the years, I have developed photography workshops that take you to wondrous locations around the globe while teaching the different disciplines of photography. Each workshop is carefully planned to offer the best scenic locations to create memorable adventure while allowing me to share my knowledge and experience.
Today, I am a professional photographer, photo educator and author living in Eastern Pennsylvania with my family. The meticulously researched photography workshops I created, specialize in landscape, travel and wildlife photography, I am fortunate to work all over the globe, across all 7 continents, documenting various cultures, environments and species in pursuit of capturing life on this planet. Following my heart and my passions, I dedicate a lot of my time to working with small NGOs, charities and initiative programs while on the road. If you have been looking for a way to give back, check out my NGO, The Giving Lens. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and contact me. Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy!

Costa Rica is a tropical forest filled with fabulous birds and wildlife. The temperatures during our tour In January 2025 were warm and humid with frequent showers, so bring rain gear for both you and your equipment. The people of Costa Rica are warm, welcoming and most speak English. Our accommodations were lovely, clean, spacious and all air conditioned. Food choices are many, varied and excellent. (…)
All in all, a wonderful country to explore and photograph. The main focus of our tour were birds, frogs and snakes with a few mammals along the way. Our tour leader, Colby Brown, our bus driver, Wilson, and our guide Kenneth Martinez, were incredible the entire trip. All three were available at all times for questions, suggestions, assistance with luggage or equipment, jokes, hugs and smiles. Due to unusually heavy rains one of our planned hotels was inaccessible as the road had washed out in several places and within 5 minutes we were on our way to a new hotel (which was quite lovely) and new photographic stops. It says a lot about a tour leader/group that can pivot so seamlessly and quickly when conditions take a turn for the worst.
As to the photography portion of the tour – it was exceptional! Every stop except one was an abundance of opportunity to photograph quetzals, hummingbirds, toucans, tanagers, water birds, cara cara, and many small birds. Colby was always near at hand for advice about composition, settings, issues with equipment, information on the birds. The one exception was the last day of our tour when we went in search of a leucistic toucan that had been spotted but failed to turn up for us – which is not uncommon when searching for an extremely rare bird. The last three days of our tour we focused on macro photography. For many of us it was a totally new experience and a good one. Colby held a class one evening explaining the differences between taking macro images vs the fast moving birds we had been photographing. The next day we had an entire day with Colby and crew setting up various branches/leaves/logs for us to photograph frogs and snakes that were caught in the forest around us. It was exciting, exhilarating and amazing. We learned how to use off camera flash with soft boxes, multiple soft boxes while all the time closely guarded by Colby and staff to assure we were in no danger.
All in all it was a truly marvelous tour with great photographic opportunities, memories and new found friends.

Truth to be said .. this is not a sit-back-and-shoot vacation trip, but the results are worth it!
First of all, getting into Bolivia was complete chaos. This is not a fault of Colby, but simply the Bolivian government’s disdain for American tourists. Be prepared to spend 45 minutes to 2 hour per person at immigration on landing. Other than that, the rest of the trip was smooth sailing. Colby and his(…)
guide/drivers took good care of us. The nights were long and we had 4-5 hours of sleep each night before shooting followed by a few hours of sleep after breakfast. The high elevation doesn’t really help either. However, looking back on the trip, we had a great time shooting, learning from each other, and lusting after new equipment that someone bought.
Colby is an incredible coach and you will learn new techniques even if you already have many years of shooting under your belt.
This is my fifth adventure trip with Colby and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them!

My recent trip to Haines, AK with Colby was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in a Long time. The eagles were in perfect form for our photographic endeavors and Colby helped me up my game as a photographer. I asked a lot of questions about photography/editing and Colby patiently answered each one. I have a ton of great photos to go through, so my next few months will be full of editing. I smile(…)
when I think of this workshop as it was wonderful in all ways. I look forward to traveling with Colby again soon!
